Water Conditioning

According to Merriam Webster “Conditioning” is the “Process in which the frequency or predictability of a behavioral response is increased through reinforcement (i.e., a stimulus or a reward for the desired response).”

Pond conditioners are chemicals added to a body of water to improve the appearance and health of the ecosystem. They provide the ecosystem with a process that changes the ecosystem’s response. This is especially beneficial to ponds that have fish (koi, goldfish, etc) because they will promote healthy living.

Because ecosystems are delicate, any slight discrepancies will cause a fluctuation in the pH balance causing harm to the ecosystem and any surrounding wildlife. If the water volume fluctuates from rainfall, more conditioning needs to be added to maintain proper levels.
